How to price handmade candles
- Count every supply: wax, fragrance oil, container, wick, wick sticker, label, lid and packaging. Small items add up across a batch.
- Use a markup: many makers price at 2.5–4× their supply cost to cover time, failed batches, selling fees and profit. Wholesale is often about half of retail, so make sure that still leaves a margin.
- Watch fragrance cost: fragrance oil is often the most expensive ingredient per candle. Dropping from 10% to 8% load can cut costs noticeably with little difference in scent throw for many oils.
- Selling online: include platform fees (roughly 6–10% on most marketplaces) and shipping materials.
