How Much Wax for a 10 oz Candle?

A 10 fl oz container filled to about ½ inch below the rim takes roughly 7.48 oz of soy wax and 0.60 oz of fragrance oil at 8% fragrance load (212 g and 17 g). Filled to the brim it would hold about 8.97 oz of melted soy wax.

Why it's less than 10 oz

A 10 oz jar is labeled by how much liquid it holds. Melted wax is lighter than water (soy is about 0.86 times as heavy), and you'll stop pouring below the rim so the wick has room. That's why a "10 oz candle" usually holds noticeably less than 10 oz of wax by weight.

For the most accurate number, fill your jar with water to the line where you'll stop pouring, weigh the water, and enter it in the calculator as "oz of water (weighed)".
